Market events — dividends, splits, macroeconomic releases — have a direct effect on whether trading is available. So that these moments do not come as a surprise, the terminal includes a trading calendar showing market hours, upcoming events and the instrument's current mode. Some restrictions are applied by the platform automatically.
Where to find the calendar
The calendar opens from a trading pair in the terminal and consists of three blocks.
- Market hours — the instrument's trading session schedule.
- Market state timeline — a timeline with the present moment at its centre: 12 hours of history to the left, 12 hours ahead to the right. Each mode has its own colour, and hovering on desktop or tapping on mobile shows the mode's name, duration and reason. The timeline is built when the window opens and does not refresh in real time.
- Events calendar — a table listing the date, the event and its effect on trading.
Times on the timeline and in tooltips are shown in your local time.
Market modes
| Mode | What it means |
|---|---|
| Market open | Trading is available as normal |
| Market paused | Trading is unavailable — for example, outside the instrument's trading sessions |
| Close only | New positions cannot be opened and existing ones cannot be increased; closing and reducing are allowed |
| Forced closure | All open positions in the instrument are closed by the platform |
In close-only mode you cannot open new positions or increase existing ones, nor place orders that would do either. Closing and reducing positions remains available. Pending orders are not executed if execution would open or increase a position.
Automatic scenarios
The platform tracks upcoming events and manages trading availability without any action from the trader.
| Event | What the platform does | Restriction window |
|---|---|---|
| Dividend payment | Force-closes all positions in the asset and switches the market to close-only | 1 hour before the event and 1 hour after |
| US macroeconomic releases | Switches the US stock market to close-only; positions are not closed | 5 minutes before the release and 5 minutes after |
| Stock split | Force-closes all positions and cancels active orders, including Limit, Stop Market and Stop Limit | 1 hour before the event and 1 hour after |
A split is the strictest scenario: it changes the instrument's price and scale, which is why pending orders are cancelled as well. The macroeconomic restriction applies to US stocks only and does not extend to crypto, Forex, indices or commodities.
Other corporate events are tracked and handled automatically as well. The calendar table states each event's effect on trading: a buyback or a company report changes trading parameters, a dividend payment switches the market to close-only, and an annual report leads to positions being force-closed. The mode applied and its window are shown alongside.
Forced closure
A forced closure is executed at the platform's current available price for the full size of the position.
The reason for every forced closure, cancelled order or operation rejected in close-only mode is recorded and shown in the order history.
